Swiss architect Mario Botta is known for his geometrically imposing, spatially captivating structures that are invariably dressed in zebra-like horizontal stripes in either black and white or red and white combinations.

Mario Botta believes that 'architecture is an ethical discipline before it is an aesthetic one'. By this principle he decided which architectural works should be featured in this superb edition of the Pro Architect series: he chose the house or home because it represents humankind's primary need for shelter; the museum for its sense of community; the commercial center for its meaning as a workplace; and the church because it focuses on the need for spirituality.
